The course will allow the student to acquire skills in the observation, evaluation and treatment of cardiorespiratory diseases in adult and pediatric patients
Course Structure
Lectures with the aid of power point presentations.
Required Prerequisites
The student must possess the general notions of physiology and pathophysiology of the main cardio-respiratory diseases of rehabilitation interest.

Detailed Course Content
1. Definition, indications, objectives of cardio-respiratory rehabilitation.
2. Evaluation of the patient with cardio-respiratory problems:
a) Functional evaluation based on Problem Oriented Medical Records (POMR);
b) Dyspnea rating scales.
3. Cardio-Respiratory Rehabilitation: Evaluation of exercise capabilities.
a) Programs and methods of effort training (Effort reconditioning: Definition of MET and Calisthenic Gymnastics);
b) Endurance training and training of peripheral muscles;
c) Respiratory muscle training.
4. Respiratory Rehabilitation Techniques: BC, TEE, FET, E.L.T.G.O.L., ACBT.
5. Cough Mechanism and Cough Assistance.
6. Respiratory Devices: Volume Incentives (Coach/Voldyne), Flow Incentives (Triflo), PEP Devices (PEP-bottle, Acapella).
7. Contraindications to the use of Respiratory Physiotherapy techniques and devices.
8. Respiratory physiotherapy treatment:
a) Lung re-expansion: 1) Increased pleural negativity; 2) Application of positive pressures to the airways;
b) Bronchial drainage (Bronchial clearance).
9. Evaluation of the surgical patient.
10. Respiratory Rehabilitation in Major Surgery (thoracic, cardiac and abdominal surgery).
11. Evaluation of the neuromuscular patient.
12. Oxygen therapy
