Educational Goals
The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Human Movement Sciences (L-22) at the University of Catania aims to train professionals with sound scientific, technical and methodological skills in the field of physical activity and sport, enabling them to promote health, well-being and active lifestyles throughout the lifespan.
The study programme integrates knowledge from different fields – biological, medical, pedagogical, technical-sport and managerial – in order to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human movement, physical exercise and sports practice, both in educational and recreational settings and in the field of performance.
In particular, the programme develops skills in four main areas:
Technical and Sports Area
Students acquire knowledge of the theories, methods and techniques of sports disciplines, both individual and team-based, with particular attention to teaching methods, introductory sports training and the promotion of physical activity for recreational, leisure and amateur purposes.
Prevention and Well-being Area
The programme provides scientific knowledge in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and adaptation to physical exercise, enabling students to understand the effects of physical activity on health and to design exercise programmes aimed at the prevention of conditions associated with sedentary lifestyles and at improving quality of life.
Educational and Social Area
Particular attention is devoted to the pedagogical, psychological and inclusive aspects of physical activity, highlighting the role of sport as a means of education, socialisation and motor development, especially throughout the different stages of childhood and adolescence.
Management and Organisational Area
Students acquire basic knowledge of the legal, economic and organisational aspects governing the sports system and physical activities, which is useful for working within sports clubs, associations, public bodies and organisations operating in the sports sector.
The educational objectives are pursued through lectures, practical and laboratory activities, interdisciplinary seminars and internships at qualified facilities, including sports centres, gyms, schools and sector organisations. These experiences enable students to develop practical skills, interdisciplinary teamwork abilities and professional autonomy.
The programme concludes with the discussion of a final dissertation, which represents an opportunity to bring together the knowledge acquired during the course of study and demonstrates the student’s ability to analyse and explore topics related to human movement sciences from a multidisciplinary perspective.
