INTERNAL MEDICINE, PHARMACOLOGY AND CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY
Module FARMACOLOGIA

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: GIUSEPPINA CANTARELLA

Expected Learning Outcomes

The PHARMACOLOGY course provides student with a preparation upon  general principles of pharmacology such as pharmacokinetics, including the routes of administration, the mechanisms of absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of the drug, as well as pharmacodinamic. The student will study the most significant drug classes used for cardiac, pulmonary and central nervous system diseases that are in close relationship with the Motor Sciences and  the principal classes of drugs used in sports and subject to restriction of use as well as  the doping.

At the end of the course, students will be able to know the correct use of  of drugs, their therapeutic indications and routes of administration; recognize side effects of the most significant drugs used in medical practice and  the main classes of drugs used in sports and those subjected to restriction of use.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The evaluation of the student includes an oral exam which consists in submitting to the examiner three questions, one of pharmacokinetics, one of pharmacodynamics and one of special pharmacology relating to exercise sciences

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

What is doping? What are the inherent characteristics of the drug that enable its successful absorption ? How and where does drug metabolism occur ?
