Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
Students will acquire knowledge of the principles of cognitive rehabilitation and the main rehabilitation techniques used in neuropsychiatric and occupational therapy settings. Particular attention will be given to the concepts of disability, quality of life, empowerment and coping, as well as to the main cognitive domains and related disorders.

Applying knowledge and understanding
Students will be able to recognize the main cognitive and functional needs of individuals with disabilities and understand the main rehabilitation strategies used in cognitive rehabilitation and therapeutic expressive activities.

Making judgements
Students will develop the ability to analyse disability considering biological, psychological and social factors, and to evaluate the role of cognitive rehabilitation and integrated interventions in promoting autonomy and participation.

Communication skills
Students will be able to use appropriate terminology in the field of cognitive rehabilitation and interact effectively with members of the multidisciplinary team in planning rehabilitation interventions.

Learning skills
Students will be able to further develop their knowledge of cognitive rehabilitation and neuropsychiatric rehabilitation interventions through independent study and consultation of scientific sources.

Lectures with presentation of clinical cases. Possible use of audiovisual media

Required Prerequisites

good knowledge of basic biological subjects, neuropsychiatric subjects and the basics of occupational therapy

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance at the training activity is obligatory within the limits of at least 70% of the frontal teaching activity of each course and at least 50% of each individual course module.

Detailed Course Content

Definition of disability and its evolution in history - Physical, social and psychological barriers. - Figures involved in disability. - Types of disability: mental, sensory and physical-motor. - Functional diagnosis and integrated intervention. Difference between illness and disease. - Empowerment, Coping and Quality of Life concepts. -  Planning of interventions and teaching of skills (integral skills).  - Neuropsychiatric and rehabilitative methods
