ACCORDING TO THE 5 DUBLIN DESCRIPTORS
1 – Knowledge and understanding – The student should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- recognizing and understanding the fundamental elements of the mental status examination;
- knowledge of the semiotics and psychopathology of the main psychic functions;
- knowledge of the main nosographic frameworks of psychiatric disorders according to DSM-5-TR and ICD-11;
- understanding the basic principles of psychiatric treatments (psychopharmacological, psychotherapeutic, somatic, and rehabilitative).
2 – Applying knowledge and understanding – The student should be able to:
- apply theoretical knowledge to the analysis of psychiatric clinical cases;
- carry out a proper clinical and psychopathological assessment of the patient;
- recognize the main psychiatric and medico-psychiatric comorbidities.
3 – Making judgements – The student should demonstrate the ability to:
- critically evaluate psychiatric symptoms and their clinical significance;
- critically analyze clinical cases by integrating anamnestic, clinical, and diagnostic data;
- recognize indications for compulsory health treatment and the related ethical and legal aspects.
4 – Communication skills – The student should be able to:
- use appropriate and scientifically accurate psychiatric terminology;
- clearly and systematically present clinical conditions and diagnostic hypotheses;
- effectively communicate clinical information within healthcare settings.
5 – Learning skills – The student should demonstrate the ability to:
- develop autonomous and critical learning of psychiatric knowledge;
- integrate psychiatric knowledge with that of other medical disciplines;
- develop critical study skills useful for continuing their educational pathway;
- update their knowledge through reference texts and provided teaching materials.
Course Structure
Lectures accompanied by interactive discussions on clinical cases. Should the teaching be delivered in blended or online mode, appropriate adjustments will be introduced with respect to what was previously indicated, in order to ensure full adherence to the program outlined in the syllabus
Required Prerequisites
Basic notions of neuropsychopharmacology. Understanding of the main medical conditions related to psychiatric disorders.
