The research activity is in translational research and focuses on the impact of micro- and nanoplastics on human health, with particular attention to mechanisms of interaction in in vitro tumour cell models and the biological effects associated with exposure. The research also explores the roles of bioactive compounds and of nutritional and nutraceutical strategies in modulating cellular responses and reducing biological damage. In addition, the research activity includes the study of the molecular mechanisms of oxidative stress and redox regulation, with particular reference to the role of nutritional antioxidants and cellular defence systems, as well as the processes underlying neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation.
