Rosalba Parenti

Rosalba Parenti is Full Professor of Physiology at the Department of Biomedical and Biotechnological Sciences at the University of Catania.
She teaches several Physiology courses and supervises numerous trainees and undergraduate students for the preparation of theses and experimental research projects. She also oversees several PhD students and Master's students in the development of their research projects.
She is the author of numerous scientific publications featured in internationally recognized journals, produced in collaboration with both Italian and foreign research groups.
She is the Rector's appointed Head of the "Center for Advanced Preclinical in vivo Research" (CAPiR - http://www.capir.unict.it/it). She is a member of the Italian Society of Physiology, the American Physiological Society, and the Italian Association for Cell Biology and Differentiation. The main research lines conducted in her laboratory include:
Neuroscience:
i) Analysis of cerebellar input and output pathways
ii) Neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration
iii) Connexin-mediated neuro-glia cross-talk
Development and characterization of advanced biotechnology:
i) Regenerative medicine
ii) Preclinical imaging
From physiological phenotype to tumor phenotype:
i) Tumoral microenvironment
ii) Advanced technologies for cancer treatment

The main research lines conducted by the research team briefly include: 1) Neuroscience: i) Neuroprotection and neuroregeneration; ii) Intercellular communcations (GJs and Cxs). 2) From the physiological phenotype to the tumor phenotype: i) Advanced technologies for diagnosis and therapy; ii) Cellular and molecular analysis of tumor biomarkers; iii) Drug Delivery. 3) Development and characterization of advanced biotechnologies: i) In vitro and in vivo models for osteo-chondral regeneration.
