Course Structure
The lectures will be held in frontal mode with the help of slides in Power-Point format, illustration and commentary on the images of instrumental investigations, report on clinical cases.
If the teaching is given in a mixed or remote mode, the necessary changes with respect to what was previously stated may be introduced, in order to comply with the program envisaged and reported in the syllabus.

Overview of the main signs and symptoms of gastroenterological diseases: chest pain, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, dyspepsia, constipation, diarrhea, jaundice, ascites, hematemesis, melena, rectal bleeding, hematochezia.
Blood tests, imaging techniques, and instrumental investigations in gastroenterology (outline)
Gastroesophageal reflux disease and hiatal hernia; prevention and non-pharmacological treatment of gastroesophageal reflux and esophagitis. The role of healthy lifestyle and diet.
Helicobacter pylori diseases. Acute and chronic gastritis. Drug-induced gastropathies.
Peptic ulcer disease.
Celiac disease and malabsorption.
Chronic infectious and endocrine-related diarrhea. The role of the microbiota.
Irritable bowel syndrome. Role of nutrition and the microbiome.
Inflammatory bowel diseases: Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and their complications. Role of the microbiota.
Diverticular disease of the colon. Role of nutrition and the microbiota.
Intestinal polyposis.
Blood chemistry indices of liver function.
