Membership Section: Microbiology

Laura Trovato is Associate Professor in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology (MEDS-03/A), at the Department of Biomedical and Biotechnological Sciences, University of Catania.

She holds a Degree in Biological Sciences (2002), post-graduate specialization degree in Microbiology and Virology (2005) and a PhD in microbiological science (2009) from the same University and since 2005 shes research has focused mainly on the advanced mycological diagnostics of invasive and superficial mycoses, in vitro activity of antifungal drugs and of resistance mechanisms in clinical and environmental isolates of Aspergillus sp., other Ialoifomycetes and Cryptococcus sp., and epidemiological and molecular typing studies in the field of invasive fungal infections. Prof.ssa Trovato teaches mycology, parassitology and clinical microbiology in different degree courses at the University of Catania and in the post-graduate specialization school of microbiology and dermatology. She is also professor at the Ph.D in “Basic & Applied Biomedical Sciences”. Since 2021 she has been secretary of the specialization school in Microbiology and Virology. Prof. Trovato carrying out assistance activities as a clinical microbiologist at the U.O.C. Analysis Laboratory of the A.O.U. Poclinico "G.Rodolico - San Marco" Catania. She has been invited as speaker in numerous National Scientific Congresses and in ECM refresher courses dealing with topics related to medical mycology. Since 2018 she has been a member of the study committee for mycology (COSM) of the Association of the Italian Clinical Microbiologists (AMCLI).

He is a memberships of the following scientific societies: Italian Society of Microbiology (SIM), Association of the Italian Clinical Microbiologists (AMCLI), Italian Federation of Human and Animal Mycopathology (FIMUA), European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), International Society for Human & Animal Mycology (ISHAM).
