Expected Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will have to understand the determining causes and pathogenetic mechanisms of human diseases, as well as the etiopathogenesis of the fundamental alterations of the structures, functions and control mechanisms. He will also have to know the fundamental biological defense mechanisms and their alterations, the etiopathogenetic mechanisms of the tumor. He will also have acquired the main notions of physiopathology. The educational path will develop from the molecular level to the higher degrees of organization (cellular, tissue, organ, apparatus, organism)

General pathology introduction

Environmental pathology

Cellular pathology: cellular adaptations (hyperplasia, hypertrophy, atrophy, metaplasia, dysplasia), apoptosis, necrosis

Inflammation: acute, chronic, mediators of inflammation

Fever and temperature changes

Immune system: innate, acquired immunity (cell mediated and humoral)

Hypersensitivity: I, II, III and IV type

 Autoimmunity

Immunodeficiencies

Oncology, immune system escape mechanisms and immunotherapy

 Atherosclerosis

Amyloidosis

Diabetes mellitus
