
Pio Maria Furneri
Doctor Pio Maria Furneri graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1985 with top marks and obtaining the award proposal, which he then achieved in 1987.
In 1989 he specialized in Microbiology and Virology with top marks.
Since 1983 he began his scientific career proven by more than 200 scientific publications and numerous sequences deposited on GenBank.
The main fields of research addressed are clinical microbiology, pharmacokinetics of some antibiotics, clinical virology, antibacterial and antiviral chemotherapy, molecular biology and pharmaceutical technologies.
In 1983 he attended the Institute of Hygiene of the University of Freiburg, in the same year he was selected to take part in the "Mycoplasma techniques course", which was held in Bordeaux.
In 1985 he attended the Institute of Virology of the University of Turku.
Dr. Pio Maria Furneri was a member (operational unit of Catania - coordinator: Prof. Gianna Tempera) of the National project "Immunodiagnosis" ex 40%, coordinated by Prof. F. Bistoni.
Since 1992 he has been a researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Catania.
Since 2001 he has been an associate professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology and has served at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Catania. Since 1 October 2024 he has been a full professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology.
