Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims at providing students with the knowledge to reinforce and extend English language skills , particularly concerning the grammatical , morphological , lexical and phonological aspects of language (B1+/B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) , reading comprehension and the ability to comment on topics related to the scientific field.

Grammatical morphological, lexical and phonological aspects of English language (B1+/B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages); the most common elements of scientific lexicon; reading comprehension and the ability to comment on topics related to the scientific field and particularly the following topics:

  • What is biotechnology?
  •  What is a gene?

  •  What is a genome?

  •  DNA and its structure

  • The origin of genetics and Mendel's laws

  •  Cancerous cells

    What is pharmacology?

    Recombinant DNA technology in therapy

    Parkinson's disease

    Cloning for therapeutic use

    The human body and its major organ systems

    The chemical structure of food

    Food analysis

  • What's in the food we eat?

  • Theory of the origin of cells

  • Bacteria

  • Viruses

  • Covid -19: origins and diffusion

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • express opinions
  • recognize grammatical and syntactical structures;
  • recount present, past and future events,
  • recognize and use the most common elements of scientific lexicon;
  • read, analize and comment on scientific texts;
  • sum up information found in texts;
